Very pretty, amazing presence. BAT sold one for $9400.

That is one seriously handsome little car. I can only dream of seeing any NSU, much less a striking and perfectly restored little Prinz Sport. I would be out of the car just about as soon as I saw that. Su ch an underrate brand but almost looks more Italian than German. That front end, mmmmmmm! I can’t think of a single thing I’d change about it other than its scarcity.

And I really have to comment on that Napa Kia Amante. What?

Am I crazy that it seems like it should be worth at least twice that? So attractive, so rare.

The 700 was like the rear engined 2002 we always deserved but forgot existed. I wonder which car I would have my money on. I'd go with the 700 by a nose.

It’s one of those entirely forgotten but also entirely wonderful cars that takes a true Oppo to appreciate. I’m not convinced I’d ever want to own one given the nonexistent parts supply but it would be an absolute treat to even see one, much less drive one. Still, if a random corner mechanic shop is selling an immaculate NSU Prinz anything can happen. I mean all the classics I see around Atlanta have to be serviced somewhere, though I suspect it isn’t in walking distance of me. I do see the oddball rare old thing every now and again, but usually not quite that oddball.

I’m a firm believer in sourcing parts supplies and clubs dedicated to vintage cars that had limited sales volume in the states. If there is no support for it, I’m not interested. I have been down this path trying to restore a car, back in the 1980's, so I certainly won’t go there again.  Nice cars, especially that Sport Prinz, but I’ll admire from afar.

Yes the whole thing is made from pure unobtanium. I think replacing parts actively increased your ability to source parts for it it's that hard to find.

I can’t imagine a strong parts supply in the states for low volume E uropean cars, so it’s best to have sources overseas.

Even in its home country, just how strong can the parts supply be for an NSU Prinz Sport?

You start with lists like this, and they will usually know other sources:

I guess you spend a lot of time calling names on a list that may only speak a language you aren’t familiar with.

Probably best to start with an email, using a good translator. Probably best to send in E ng lish and the other language. Many foreign countries teach English in school, because the two international working languages are French and English.

That’s a good point. Someone in Eu rope is likely to know at least a little English.

It’s also good to remember that calls overseas can be expensive and the hour differential some times means waking up early.

I know how hard it can be to plan ahead for call times with someone overseas. A little while ago my dad was in England for a few weeks and I had to be careful about not calling later in the day.

It's also been hard communicating with some people in China for group projects here in college as they can't use most messaging apps and their hours are so different.

When I was living in California, communication with European parts suppliers was a tremendous hassle due to the time differential. Email inquiries seem to work best initially. W hen you needed to have an actual conversation, meant going to the shop hours before normal business time. And then there are those who won’t return email inquiries or refuse to ship overseas. Sometimes you can find an individual overseas who is willing to be the middleman for these type of transactions, for a price.

I’ll bet middlemen are much more advantageous with a language barrier. The time differential isn’t quite as bad on this end of the country. Well, with Europe anyways.

Middlemen can often get the parts on a plane, if you need them to. So metimes it’s even less expensive than overnight shipping, if the part(s) are big and heavy.

I have no experience there but of course they have to take a cut for themselves. I wonder how profitable that is to do. There is certainly a use for them.

I’m not sure if people make a living doing it, but it is a good supplemental income.
